Cichlid Surface & Dive Routine

So my Cichlids will every once and a while start this weird behavior of swimming strait up really fast then turning and swimming strait down once they reach or get very close to the surface. They might continue this for 5-30 min.

What is the deal? Are they OK? At first I thought they where trying to tell me something about my aquarium size but I increased that and they still do it. (I have 2 electric yellows and 2 reds in a 30Gal aquarium)

Humm… Funny fish…

My two cichlids also dart up and down from time to time and they are perfectly healthy and not stressed at all. they sometimes just go up and down but sometimes you can see that they actually targeting some of other fish as they would both be floating head up next to each other and then dart upwards to chase the other fish.

my rd does that too sometimes and he will bite the air... have no idea what it means but its kinda funny to watch
