Butterfly Cichlid/Bolivian Ram

I've done a bit or research on these beautiful fish and am aware they are mouthbrooders with quite a peaceful nature.

I'm setting up a new tank (shortly) and am going to be putting my angel fish in it. Will I be able to add some of these too? What other fish would you recommend?

They are cichlids as well, so you will need to keep an eye on them, but I wouldn't suspect too much in the way of problems.

What is the size of the tank, Steff?:) Deep-bodied tetras will also make great tankmates for both cichlids.

It's 160 litres.

I have a community tank already, and another smaller one dedicated to guppies. Branching out and doing something different this time.

By butterfly cichlids, you mean bolivian rams? I'm confused. Rams aren't mouthbrooders. They're substrate spawners.

I really hate how lfs often label them as both butterfly cichlids leading to a lot of confusion between these two well-known rams. Stick with the proper names, if not, scientific names to be more specific.

An excellent article by Lonewolfblue:

Clearly LFS doesn't know everything!

He has got some very nice rams in though. Very tempting!

It's good that you've found that out early.
