a breeding ? for discus

ok iv been reading alot about these fish and i have seen everywhere that they will pick the fish they want to breed with and pair up. my question is ( i dont know the names of the difrent types of Discus so ill just use colors as a speices) say i have a blue Discus and a yellow Discus will they pair up and mate or will they only pick fish of the same color. now say they do pair up and the fry later pair with other color fish how will you know what kind of Discus you now have? i know seems silly but the only way to learn is to ask and i know a bunch of people here keep these and should have seen something like this.

Nothing is silly to ask! Color has nothing to do with who picks who as a mate. They are all cichlids and don't discriminate in regards to color when they pair up. I have a Red Turk and Blue Diamond that have paired up and an Orange Pigeon and a Red Turk that have paired up. As far as the coloring of the babies they throw there is actually a "formula" as far as their genomes, if you will, that can give you a rough idea of what you can expect. Which colors of Discus are you interested in knowing about?
