bottom feeders for africans

so i posted on here before asking about mbunas. well i also need bottom feeders. i was told britle nose plecos. would any pleco work? or is there something special about the bristle nose that makes them a better choice? also, catfish. i was told Synodontis multipunctatus. i have no been able to locate multipunctis but i have found other species. would they work just as well?

it all depends on the size of the tank.bristle are good cause they wont eat the plants you have in the tank.some pleco will devour plants if not fed well and some grow very huge.plecos are very fussy eaters esp the spotted type but then again they get huge.brittles are the best as they aren't very big and are some what well behaved in a tank.
as for the catfish you might want to check it's compatibility with the chilids you have.some smooth skin type don't do well in tanks that have salt in them and most chilid tanks will contain some salt for water hardness

Agreed, we need to know what size your tank is before we offer suggestions.

10g Fry / Hospital / QT tank (as needed)

75g Saltwater Reef, Ocellaris Clownfish, Lyretail Antias (baby), Lemon damsel, Longtail Fairy Wrasse, purple dottyback, snails, crabs and a few LPS corals.

220g Still sitting empty (come on Lottery I need the numbers to come up!)

My tank is as 75 with a 30 gallon sump. I currently only have 5 yellow labs but plan to add more fish. I saw bristle nose plecos( decent sized) for $20 and small "busy" nose plecos for $6 at my LFS. What's the difference? They both only get about 6inches. I do plan on adding live plants such as java fern, anubias, swords and jungle val.

Bushy Nose are from South America and will not be happy with cichlids. They need a pH of 5-7 which is too low for the Africans who need 7.4-7.8

Synodontis Multipunctus and BristleNose Plecos work well with Africans.

Ideally you want to keep the labs in a ratio of 1 male to 3-4 female. Same with a majority of Africans as well, there are some that are high;y aggressive which need a 1 male to 7-8 female but they are NOT beginners fish.

Yellow Labs make an ideal starting point, look also at Pseudotropheus Acei, Iodotropheus sprengerae (Rusty), cynotilapia Afra, Pseudotropheus socolofi with 6 Synodontis Multipunctus as bottom feeders.

You would be aiming for about 4 species of 5 fish maximum from each species.

Post on the forum if you have any ideas for stocking and we can offer assistance.

I have 3 Synodontis multipunctatus in my 125G. These are pretty fun to watch (when they are out that is)
