Blue Ram Tank Reccomendations?

I used to have blue rams, they're lovely fish.
They are a type of cichlid, but a rather strange species. They don't get very big, and they only live for a couple of years, unlike some other cichlids that get huge and live forever. I think a ten gallon tank for two of them would be just fine. I put mine in a twenty gallon but that's because I had some other fish that I put with them. You could probably feed them tropical flakes or bloodworms. As far as I've seen, they aren't very aggressive towards other fish, but yours might be, I really don't know.

I've seen the rams that Petsmart are carrying, and they are very stressed, so you will have a harder time determining males and females, plus ideally you want to try to find a bonded pair. Try observing them in the tank, and see if you can find two paired off, but it will not be likely at Petsmart. They need low ph, just so you know. They will not do well in hard water of any kind. They also do better with plants, and floating plants are very good for them.

I keep a pair of blue rams. I wouldn't keep them in anything less than a 20g. They do best in a 20g tank with live plants. I used to keep cardinal tetras with them, but I now have them alone as I am trying to breed them. As Gwen said it is best to get a bonded pair.

I would recommend a 30g, but with a properly set up 20g would work. Rams are still cichlids and wont necessarily get along especially when put into a new tank. In a 10g you can end up with a dead fish.
