I have a ten gallon (upgrading to a 36 gallon too, no need to tell me its to small) lol, but with 1 jack dempsey about 3 1/2 inches and 2 black convicts, ones really small and ones pretty big, they always fight and stuff and they are doing fine but I have this little "open sharks teeth" thing thats just like a sharks jaw, and the big convict dug out the back side of it about 1 inch deep and 3 inches wide and whenever the other two fish get near it the convict FREAKS and flares and attacks them, its not to extreme or anything not really worried about my fish just wondering,

what is this all about? anyone know? thankyou.

It could be that the one that has dug out the gravel has laid eggs. Cichlids are known to do this even when they don't actually have a partner to mate with. Beware that if your two convicts end up as a pair, they will start fights with the Dempsey left and right, and you could very well end up with dead fish as Dempseys aren't exactly known to back down from a fight.

You can definitely keep a pair of convicts in a 36 gallon tank long-term (so long as they get along with each other) but the Dempsey is a bigger fish and will eventually need at least a 55g tank (although 75g would be better).

yeah, they do fine together though, the little convict won't pair up with the other one cause she beats him up so much lol, so hes actually doing better cause the big convict won't leave his hole to beat him up any more, and the dempsey only gets nipped at when he swims over to eat food over there

thankyou
