black convict cichlid fry

My convicts just had babies what should I feed them? Is there anything I need to do to ensure their health? I had to remove them and put into their own ten gallon because the father ate all but 15 of them.

A great food for baby fish of most species is infusoria for the first 3-6-5 days. Baby brine shrimp can then be fed to them graduating to flake food at about 3-4 weeks post hatch.

My convict fry grew up just eating crushed flakes. The tank gets messy so you need to be good about cleaning the gravel, but that's probably true of any food small enough for fry.

convict fry

I have convict fry in my tank also and I went to petsmart and they suggested some fry food that looks like fine sand. I am not sure how it gets down to the bottom to them as it just floats on the top but when I come back to the tank later it is not there.

When i used to breed them i just used the same pellets i fed the parents with. When they get soft they fry will slowly take them apart. I did this because if you leave the fry with the parents they will do the same thing to feed the fry.
