sooo... at present I have 1 male apisto left over from a pair I had, the male harassed and killed the female :(

so... im thinking about doing a 20g or 20L blackwater tank but thats in the not so distant future. Right now I feel bad that hes always hiding. I NEVER see him anymore where as when he had his chica they used to hang out all over the tank all the time.

should I..
A) get another female and try again

B) get 3 more females

C) get 1 more male and 2 more females

input is much appriciated in advance :)

What size tank? what particular apistos ? sometimes increasing the ratio of females to males produces better chance of one female not being harrassed which you have already witnessed. I have also found that removing male to another tank if possible and then reintroducing him after females have been in tank a week or two also helps . :)

well right now they would go into a 29g mixed community tank where my 1 male already is. BUT im thinking about moving my 3 firebellies to a 20g and using their current 20L for a blackwater tank, which is where the apistos would go ultimately :)

While twenty litres(5)gal. would house possibly a pair, It would in my view be much better to have at least twenty gal. Especially if you are considering breeding at some point. Even if you are not, It would in my view be too small for fish to establish territorys and some aggression would be expected. :(
