We have no problems with this combination.

A couple of month ago our angel's life companion passed away. He was 10. The remaining one did not accept any other young angels and I could not find a bigger and older one for him. He would probably kill that too anyway.

Then I came across some lively tiger barbs and having a new tank in mind I bought them for the stripes and agitation they offer. The Old Angel seemed to be very angry, but couldn't catch any! He was too slow even when they tried to bite his fins - ouch Then he got used to them and they stopped biting him in their turn.

We added some more tigers and some cherries and everything has been fine so far. The Old Angel became livelier too!

In general, tiger barbs and angels should never be mixed. There is still a chance the tiger barbs will nip the angels. I woulodn't bet on the fact that they may live together. Better safe than sorry.

Tiger barbs tend to be a bit nippy.

I thought if you kept tiger barbs in schools of 6+, they tended to nip themselves and less so the other fish. I've got an order for some, but don't have any experience with them. My cherry barbs stay to themselves outside the odd attempts to shoal with the tetras, but then again, cherry are generally more placid. :P

My tiger barbs - 8 in number - do not nip anyone, not even the apple snails who used to suffer a bit from them at the beginning. I cannot say they nip each other either. They are the most active at feeding time and do look a bit plump. Maybe they are just overfed and lazy? Although they will move fast around tank, mostly looking for food as I understand.
