Angelfish lost ventral fin - will it regrow?
One of my lace angelfish lost the longest portion of one ventral fin (the long, narrow part that hangs way down and looks like a "whisker"). No fin rot or other issues. I was just wondering if that portion of the fin will regrow or do I need to rename this one "lefty".
I believe regeneration of a ventral fin depends upon the cause, and then the age and condition of the fish. If it is genetic, it will not. If it was nipped off by something, it may depending upon the fish's age (younger fish more likely) and condition.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
Thanks Byron. This angelfish is about 4 months old or so (?), the fin extension was lost due to some aggression in the tank. I lost one angelfish that was in the middle of the "pecking order" and the two smallest now get a little more attention from the two dominant angelfish. I believe that was the reason. The fin was fine one day, "broken" looking the next and lost on the third day. Not a major catastrophe, the fins looked rather thin compared to my other angels, so could be the genetics.
