hey i have a 30 gallon tank, 3 foot long, 14 inches wide, and its been up and running for a year now and was an grow out tank for some mbuna fry, and now i wanna make a nice aqua scape for a american cichlid pair or pairs. im curious for some suggestions for stocking. i was thinking a pair of cichlids, and some dithers, or two pairs of smaller cichlids and smaller dithers?ome fish i was really interested in was, C.sajica,T.ellioti,blue acara, keyholes, dwarf pikes, gymnogeophagus, rainbow cichlids,EBJD,severums,

and for dithers i was thinking tiger barbs, serpae tetras or rainbows.

can anyone suggest a good setup for me? thanks for all advice!

The stock you are wanting is for at least a 55 gallon tank.

I would look to do a single larger cichlid with a pair of smaller ones, along with a school or two and some corys for the bottom.
Flint likes this.

125 - BGK, chanchito cichlid, pictus cats, silver dollars, palmas bichir
125 - cichlids (severums, bolivian rams, chocolate), rainbows ( turquoise, red), loaches (angelicus, zebra, kuhli and horseface), plecos (BN, RL and clown), denison barbs, tiretrack eel, pearl gouramis, betta
90 - Congo tetras, african knife, upside down cats, spotted ctenopoma, kribensis, delhezzi bichir
2.5 - betta

A rainbow cichlid with a pair of bolivian rams would be what I would try to do, with zebra danios at the top and some barbs for the middle of the tank and corys for the bottom.

I have keyholes, they're quite attractive in a subdued kinda way but are skittish.
I'd recommend them with some tetra like lemons or head&tail lights and some corries.

How many do you have? I have read they should be kept in a group - was considering a group for the 125 with the severums.

I have 3 of the keyholes.
I was hoping for 2 females and a male, but I think I have 2 males and a female.
They're nice, the coloring is subtle, but quite attractive.
They don't bother anybody in the 65, not even each other.

There are lots of dwarf cichlids you can do, but you want to keep from over crowding them. Most of the times the males will fight with the other males as they're all competing for the same "territories". Rams (Bolivian, german blue, electric blue, gold), Curviceps, Apistogrammas just to name a few. These would do well with Corydoras catfish, tetras of almost any kind (i really like lemon tetras or rummynose tetras). I think you could make a really nice little tank out of a mixture of these.
