i went to my friends house the other day and he kept two severums in a 10 gallon tank. their bodies were the size of a quarter. How long could they survive in that tank?

not very long, is your friend aware that a sev can attain 12"? 8 at very least. id say after about 6 months or less they will be to large, and he will start having nitrite/ammonia problems, plz tell him to bring the poor fish back to the fish store and buy something more appropriate.

They can survive but not for long. Water conditions will easily become unstable and stunting is very easy to accomplish. Show him photos of large blood parrots and explain to him why stunting is not a good idea. Stunting can result in shorter lifespan. It is best you suggest he buy a larger tank and make the 10g a quarantine tank. A quarantine tank is a must anyway as you go along the road.
