Do you think it could be ich? Does it look like the fish has salt grains on it?

55 gallon
Paracheirodon innesi - neon tetras
Pantodon buchholzi - African butterfly fish
Hoplosternum littorale - hoplo catfish
Erpetoichtys calabaricus - ropefish
??? - spiny eel
Bunocephalus cf. coracoideus - banjo catfish

Pomacea bridgesii - apple snail

Yea.I kinda jump the gun "freaked out".I read up some on the white spots on this forum and I also think its ich.I got ahold of my fish store after i wrote this and they said it might be ich and to come in and et some treatment for it.She said they might have something for him but have to check because SD's are sensitive to some meds also I read that if you rase the temp that will help.thanks for your help and they do look like salt grains upr back and the back tail.

Yep, ich is nasty, but you seem to be on your way to having it under control. Just remember to raise the temp, add appropriate medication, and (with most ich meds) keep adding the medication for a week after the last visible signs of the parasite. Good luck and I hope you can get rid of it!

If it is ich, the best treatment might be to simply raise the temperature for a week. If the fish can manage with 90F, this will rid the tank of ich without medications. Silver Dollar should be OK with this for one week, but I've no idea what other fish you have in this tank.

I had this enter my 90g and with sensitive fish, 90F was too high so I raised the tank to around 84F and did one dose of Coppersafe. Ich disappeared in a week. I slowly lowered the temp back to 77F over the following week.

At first I cycled my tank with five tiger barbs, after seven weeks i got one bristlenose and one fujii cory.Eight weeks I got three SD,s but had to take back the tigers because they would not leave the sd's alone, then i added two more sd's and one more cory. Then next week I got six lemon tetras.Evrything is GREAT.The fish are all getting along.I got some coppersafe at lunch today and added it after work but I dont know if the other fish will handle the higher temp.THANKS for the info.

They will be OK with mid-80's F. Say 85F plus the one dose of Copersafe. If you do a water change during the 7 days following the Coppersafe, you wil need to replenish it only for the amount of water removed. Return the temp after 7 full days, again slowly over a week. Water changes as normal after that.
