I just bought two types of tetras today; neons and glowlight. i only got three of each, as i was told they would school together. i've seen some mingling but nothing i'd say is schooling. will two different types of tetras school together?
Most likely they won't. Some tetras do shoal due to close resemblance of colors. Cardinals and neons are often found shoaling together.
Do not expect them to shoal all the time. They do it as defense mechanism in the wild due to predation.
i woke up this morning and the group of six were schooling together, both the neons and the glowlights. one's in the back but the other five are still schooling.
I've got 6 Glowlights and 5 Black Neons in a 20 High, and they school together all the time. It used to be that they would keep in separate groups in diferent parts of the tank, but over time the schools kind of merged. They tend to separate out by species when stressed, though (during gravel vacuuming/snail picking).
If you add different species that might threaten the tetras, they will school. If they are just by themselves, they will rarely school and would just play around with each other.
