Tank mates for Columbian Tetras?

Hi everyone I just got five Columbian Tetras today not fully understanding the facts about. The LFS said it was a great fish calm and makes for a good tank mate. Well this was after I told him I was planning on getting some Angelfish in the future for my tank. So I got these finish to help cycle my tank (which is a 55gal). Well after reading some about them I don't think the Angelfish is such a good I deal with the columbian tetra. So my question is what would make good tank mates for these fish?

food

as always variety is the spice of life so i would get another food or two..frozen or a high quality pelllet.live is always good..i have never known the columbians to be picky eaters but if you want the nice red finnage you will want a good diet.

Well I wouldn't say detered just mislead lack of information on the fish I think but mostly mislead. I think in his mind ( owner of LFS ) that the columbian tetra would be okay with angelfish.

IME they are fairly nippy, and that was in the 90 gallon. I now have them with tiger, rosy and gold barbs in a 55 with a female convict and they're doing very well. I think they can handle a slightly more aggressive tank than some other tetras.

125 - BGK, chanchito cichlid, pictus cats, silver dollars, palmas bichir
125 - cichlids (severums, bolivian rams, chocolate), rainbows ( turquoise, red), loaches (angelicus, zebra, kuhli and horseface), plecos (BN, RL and clown), denison barbs, tiretrack eel, pearl gouramis, betta
90 - Congo tetras, african knife, upside down cats, spotted ctenopoma, kribensis, delhezzi bichir
2.5 - betta

You will also find some other suggestions for suitable tankmates in the profile, Colombian Tetra.

If you decide to keep the Colombians [some stores will take them back in exchange] and work around that, I would suggest getting 3 more. A group of 6-8 tends to keep their nippiness more subdued, the more the merrier.
