these little dudes are ruining my new plants! pretty much stripped my wisteria down to the stem and i caught them attacking my swords today before work! i tapped on the glass an yelled at them but i dont think thats going to work lol. they dont touch my java fern or the 2 diff kinds of val i have. is there a way i can get them to stop? anything i can feed them?
Plant eating is apparently one of their flaws. Wisteria seems to be a favorite of my fish also. Other than having only plants that they won't eat, maybe try some of the blanched greens like lettuce, spinach, cucumber. Needs to be something they like and is easier to eat than the plants. Good luck.
do i just hang it in there for a day an replace it every day? or can it be longer? thank you very much for the help. i really like my new plants and im kind of fond of my tetras too lol
It'll take some observation. If the veggies start looking like they're degrading and the fish aren't paying attention to them, switch them out. It might take the fish a while to trust them. You might also need to try different locations in the tank. Plan on it taking a week or so to see what's going on. Sorry but, that's the best I can suggest. So much of this is trial and error. More often than not, we have to compromise when it comes to mixing fish and plants.
alright cool cool. all youre suggestions have been very helpful. ill give it a go when i get up. lets hope it works! i really like my amazon swords and they seem to be doing very well and have grown quite abit in the week ive had them but if they gotta go they gotta go. my lil hell raisers gotta stay haha. thanks again mr monger!
Not sure if it would work, but have you considered duckweed. Add it to the tank before feeding and see if it makes a difference. You might need to cultivate in a bucket until you have a decent supply but it may save the hassle of putting veggies in every other day.
they stopped eating all my plants once they ate all the water sprite and wisteria. my swords have new growth an they havent even bothered them or my val.,.. maybe they didnt lke the new plants at first lol
My fish have been keeping my wisteria trimmed to the stalks and I can't find any water sprite anymore. Guess we should be thankful that they leave us something.
Haha I know right! After a week that's how both my plants looked. I have salvinia minima "I believe that's what it called) arriving today. Hopefully they leave them alone. They def are a crazy Tetra. Good personality but very naughty lol Posted via Mobile Device
