I have had lemon tetras for 5-6 years and love their personality and their colouring. I have had two die in the past year and am now down to only 4. I have been watching for more lemon tetras to show up in stores for just over a year, hoping to catch some for sale.

Now I have only 4 (one died suddenly 4 days ago) and they aren't looking totally comfortable, I went to 3 stores today: one LFS, Petsmart, and Big Al's. No luck. I was talking to the guys at Big Al's, which specializes in aquaria and they told me that they haven't seen lemon tetra for a while. Apparently, possibly because lemon tetra don't show their best in a store - they are quite pale when not settled - lemon tetra are rarely seen nor stocked. :frown2:

I love my lemon tetra. They are a beautiful lemon yellow with black fin markings and red eyes.

I bought "orange von rio" tetra which are a beautiful colour and hope that they settle in to make my lemons feel better, but I am saddened that once my 4 lemons die, I might not have the chance to restock with this type.

I'm not really familiar with online purchasing and don't think it would be worth it for a few fish. My flame tetra seem to have settled in and all of the tetra are interacting and chasing each other. I think the flame either are more active than the lemon, or all are happier. Everyone is swimming around and eating and chasing. I think the flame will also be beautiful when they are fully grown. Though they originally seemed peachy coloured, their fins are becoming a bright red.
