They are very very large fish, both long and tall, the 300 gallons is more for space rather than filtration.
30 inches long, about 10-15 inches tall, add those together, 45 inches adult size, add filtration needs and food, 300 gallons is my summary, Plus how deep they are. Ive seen a pacu as big as a man's torso.... They get pretty darn big.
