Rare or Hard to find tetras ?

I'm wondering what are some of the rare or harder to find tetras out there that I could keep an eye out online and /or local fish store ??

Depending what you mean by rare or hard to find, you will probably find some in our profiles. Second tab from the left in the blue bar across the top of the page. Tetra are obviously under characins. I have added many species that are not "common" in most stores.

Are you looking for anything specific? I just got in a few Arowana Tetras...pretty hard to come by, they don't ship well apparently.

They sound interesting , do you have pictures or a latin name ? I've been told there's an Elongated Hatchetfish ... not sure of the latin name , but they come in VERY sparatic . I believe these are the largest of the hatchetfishes ..

Not a true hatchetfish (family Gasteropelicidae), the so-called elongated hatchetfish is Triportheus elongatus. Another large (10-inch) fish needing room. Some info here:

They really don't ship well as I lost the last of them. I did acclimate them but I'm guessing they are wild caught...betting the water params are too different.

Congo Tetras are beautiful and make a nice group. Don't know the Latin name.

congos aren't the rarest though, try to go to your lfs and look at what tetras they have

Congo's have been around for decades and yet they are still $10 + for babies !!!!!!!!! The newer species coming in are a couple bucks cheaper , could be alittle more exciting

Ya why is that? $10 ea here in Ontario too. or 3 for $25. But I had never ever seen them before and was quite taken with them when I saw my first tank full. LFS guy said they do well in a Rainbowfish tank (1 died after bringing 3 home) Really want to get 3 more for a group of 5 at the least.
