i keep red bellies and there is no way id put one in a 15g or 20g
a good general rule is 30gallons for the first fish and 20 gallons for each fish after that

Hi i have 6 red bellied piranahs in a 55 gallon, they seem fine, the waters good, i have 3 powerful filters running, running probaly 100 gallons
but you say you want some that will shred a cow? I CAN NEVER SEE MY PIRANAHS EVEN BITING INTO A COW! they are no where near aggressive as people think. I put my hands in their all the time and they are actually just scared of me, i cant even walk past the tank without them freaking out and banging their heads into the glass lol
and they are picky eaters! i put raw meat in their, sometimes they will eat it (not agressivly) and sometimes they will just let it lay there...believe me unless you starve them then put meat in there...they dont show any agression at all

if you do go to the piranha road (big tank and big filters) then make sure what you buy are red belly piranhas, not red belly pacus, the pacu will grow much much much bigger and will need 300 gallons all by its self with 2000 gallons for a school of 6. They look the same when young (although im sure you can find tehre differences) and some lfs might trick you in buying pacus.
