Neon tetra fragility?

I bought six neon tetras last Friday and they were dead by Sunday.

It was freezing outside, so I had them put in a second bag, blew air in it and tied it off. Then I put my gloves in the shopping bag and the fish bag between them. I wrapped that up and tied it tight. Then I put that inside another shopping bag.

When I went home, I put the fish bag in a big bowl and poured water from my tank around it, a little at a time. After 30 minutes, I started adding little amounts of my tank water into the fish bag. After an hour, I netted them carefully into the tank. It seemed like the right thing to do at the time, but they all died. Are they that fragile?

From the sounds of your other post, you tried to cycle the tank with guppies and tetras--quite a few if I remember correctly. Tetras are sensitive to water quality, they are not usually a recommended fish to cycle with. I think you tried to cycle the tank with too many fish, did you do water changes? Tank size, stats, and more exact information will help a lot.

There's a Tanks button under my post with all my information. The tank was already cycled when I added the neon tetras to the tank with the guppies.

Ok, I understand now (sorry). So you cycled the tank with guppies and then added tetras and more guppies and the tetras died. Here is I believe what happened--the tank was barely cycled when you added the tetras, with that many fish in your tank it was considered over-stocked, that combined with the sudden adding of fish led to an ammonia spike which killed the fish. Six gallons is quite little, you are at or above capacity with 6 guppies :)
