Neon Tetra Compatibility Q

Hi there!

I'm hooked on those wonderful little fish we call neon tetras, and I would very much like to add them to my aquarium. But, would they be compatible?

Tank mates:
Flame gourami x1
Mollies x2
Guppies x4 (One adult, adolescent fry)
Zebra Danios x4

The Aquarium:
Freshwater (Duh.)
25 gallon
pH: 8.0
Hard water.
Fully cycled, low Nitrate readings.
26 deg C

with that type of stock list i wouldn't personally but thats my opinion most of the fishes on your list will give the neon stress and most of the time they die from it =(

I wouldn't recommend neons either. Mainly due to the water. Although they are tank raised and therefore somewhat adaptable to basic medium-hard water, they are still a soft water fish. A pH of 8 with corresponding hardness is quite high. Our profile of this species recommends soft water with a pH below 7.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If youíre going to take it under your wing then youíre responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
