hello everyone. i am new to the forum. looks like a great place
i want to setup a new 5 gallon tank for my office. i havent bought it yet. i love neon tetras and cardinal tetras...could i keep some in this 5 gallon tank? i dont have room for anything bigger, and i want the space to be cleared up. how many can i keep of each?
Hi! I'm basically new also but good rule is 1 gal of water for 1 inch of fish. I have two neons but don't know about the others. Hope this helps & Good Luck.
The one inch rule is not a good rule. Some fish produce quantum more waste than others.
If I were to make a choice between cardinals and neons, I would pick cardinals. They are hardier and show more color. You could probably stock about six cards if you had adequate filtration.
HF, do you think that would provide adequate swimming space for the tetras? I wouldnt have thought so, but then again I need to think less to stay out of trouble
Of the tetra group, neons and cardinals are less boisterous than, say serpeas. I would think that they should be ok, especially if a few plants were added to calm them and provide security. But, no more than six. Your concern about swimming space is valid.
I also think you can keep a few (6 max) in the tank. I have been thinking about adding Cards to my 5G because I absolutley love them; dbating between CPD's, Endler's and Cards.
Good luck with your tank. I would love to see your progress.
