I was thinking of adding some Emperor Tetras to my 55 gallon tank. I have a shoal of 15 cardinal tetras and I don't want anything to happen to them so I'm very nervous about adding anything that could be agressive to my cardinals.
Our local stores don't have Emperors so I would have to mail order them. My sister had some years ago and they were INCREDIBLE looking fish and I have wanted to get some ever since. I would like to get 5 or 6 of them to add some extra color and sizeable fish to my tank. Right now I have the 15 cardinals, 1 huge pleco, 1 clown loach, 4 corys, 2 otos and a few small guppies.
Can Emperors go with Neons and Cardinals?
Are you referring to Nematobrycon palmeri? There are a few different tetras referred to as Emperor tetras.
As far as I know, they're quite docile & not nippy. They should go just fine in your tank.
However, it's probably time to start looking for a new home for your pleco. A huge pleco makes a HUGE amount of waste, and adding more fish may be too much bioload for your tank.
I think you are right about the Pleco. He's so pretty but getting much too big. I need to find someone who can give him a good home. I hate just taking them to the pet store and giving them to them because no telling where they will end up.
Well, I did it. I traded my pleco at one of the local pet stores. I do hope and pray he finds a good home. I traded him for a couple Amazon Swords and a few platys for my daughter. Not a bad trade. I wish they had had some Emperors but all their tetras looked awful.
Since Emperors are so docile I'll be getting some in the near future.
Well my new Emperors came in the mail today. They are just gorgeous. They look very healthy and happy. Hopefully, they stay alive. They are small but they will grow. I got 5 of them along with 7 more otos. The otos don't look so hot right now but they don't ship very well. Unfortunately, I can't get them around here at the local pet stores. When I ask for them they look at me like I'm nuts and say, "Do you mean corys?" Hopefully, they will perk up and I won't loose any.
