Congo Tetras a change in behaviour

Iv got 6 Congo Tetras that used to live in my old aquarium which is the same volume as the new 1 altho upright more than longer. In the old tank they would often just float around in there group, svanenge for food, and generally just laze around.

Since theyve moved to there new home it appears the group is alot tighter with a definate hierarchy, where 1 goes the others follow everytime!

They are just loving it!

Also the other inhabitants they shared the old aquarium with have seem to come to life, there all alot more active, mainly other tetra species. Maybe they were just a bit to bossy with the others!

But and a huge but they will not stop watching me!!!!!! Its starting to get annoying tho, i cant do anything without 12 eyes following me!

I was away most of saturday and came back today and unfortunately 1 of my Congos had passed, the others seem a little skittish about it so keeping a closer eye on them

Well the older Congos dont ssem to have forgiven me for moving them, out of the 6 the 1 that passed seemed to be the most inactive and wouldnt go with the croud. All other fish in the tank are eating properly where as the older Congos seem to be off there food, iv checked perameters daily also done regular water changes. They get even more skittish if i put the bubbler on which is connected to the under substrate filter, i only put it on for 2 x 1 hour periods a day.

It is baffling why they seem to have started acting up like this as they appear to be in good health and no visable signs of illness

Tho it hasnt stopped them destroying the Wisteria and now nipping at the Amazon Frogbit, they have always destroyed plants for fun it think, all they left in there old home was the grassy type of plants even then would chew pieces off and nibble on them like a stereo typical farmer

IME congos are sensitive to changes in environment - just because you've had them doesn't mean that they won't act like new fish when you put them in a new tank. That's what it sounds like to me. Give them some time to settle in.

As for the fish dying - often there is no way to really know why it died. Unless there are some obvious indicators, we just can't know why fish die because we don't perform autopsies. Lots of people like to make suppositions as to why fish die, which only perpetuates misinformation and myths. In reality, the fish could have had a heart attack for all we know. In nature, a lot of the fish in our aquariums would never make it due to survival of the fittest. Inferior fish are sold to people all the time.

It really does sound like a freak accident, seems to me you are taking great care of them..
Hopefully everyone will settle down soon enough.
