Colombian Tetra ( Blue Flame Tetra)

I bought 3 of these Colombian Tetras today. The label at the store said Glass Bluefin Tetra, I think not maybe their own versiuon of this kind of tetra. They are also called Blue Flame Tetra or Red Blue Flame tetra. Anyone have any info on these? Are these all the same Colombian Tetra?

Look at your post Do you see where the names are highlighted you can click on that name and it will take you to the fish's profile. I have had tie Colombian tetra and I found them to be a bit nippy and very food aggressive. They will do best in a group of about 7 but this is going to depend on the size of your tank.

Mine are semi aggressive as well. I would return them, as they are one of the larger tetras and need a much bigger tank. Or do you have a tank not listed?

125 - BGK, chanchito cichlid, pictus cats, silver dollars, palmas bichir
125 - cichlids (severums, bolivian rams, chocolate), rainbows ( turquoise, red), loaches (angelicus, zebra, kuhli and horseface), plecos (BN, RL and clown), denison barbs, tiretrack eel, pearl gouramis, betta
90 - Congo tetras, african knife, upside down cats, spotted ctenopoma, kribensis, delhezzi bichir
2.5 - betta

The min is 10 gallonI read, I only got three because there's 3 Amano shrimp and 2 Ghost shrimp in there to. They are still small about one inch long (males). They play lots very active tetra.

They killed the smaller Ghost Shrimp bullied him and nipped him to death. RIP Ghost Shrimp It was the female the males would corner him and the female would attack. They bully the other shrimp but don't attack they are to big.

These are active and a little aggressive playful aggressive except when it comes to food. They go crazy over food. Tough to feed the Assassin snails when these tetras eat all the bloodworm first. The females are fat and the males are slender. Females seem more active and nip at everything.

You can't go by what you read as far as minimums, as there is often a gap between that and practical experience. Mine are in a 55 and I wouldn't put them in anything less. Also, rather than cram the fish in the smallest tank possible, why not get appropriately small fish so they have room to swim?

Fish that are active and aggressive do not do well in tiny tanks.

I agree I wouldn't put these fish in anything smaller them a 55 because of their needs and their behaviour. When I had them I had them in a 55 also with 7 of them all together and still saw nipping and as you found out are like little piranhas when it comes to feeding.

Did you read the profile of this species on this site, as another member suggested? Click the shaded name, Colombian Tetra to pop-up the profile.

In the profile it recommends nothing less than a 3-foot tank for a group of this fish (alone). If you only have a 10g, you should return the fish as they will cause trouble and be stressed and likely develop other issues.
