I have 12 Blind Cave Tetras, and I adore them. They are almost two inches long and eat out of my hand. Occasionally they nip my arm (sometimes hard!) if I am moving a plant or rock in the tank. I was just wondering if anyone else has ever experienced this. Thanks!

Nice fish! Can you post some pics? I haven't kept them since I was a kid and never in such a large group, that alone must be awesome.

Uncooperative photographic subjects

I have been trying to get a picture of them, and the little buggers won't stay remotely still. They swim non stop like tiny pink sharks! I will keep trying!

No worries :D I've kept them after all, so no just what you're dealing with. To answer your question (which I totally derped on before in my excitement) I never had them nibble on my arm. I've never had any fish do that personally, but apparently it's a favored past time of a number of different fish people keep on here. It may be due to your moving of things around. It's not a bad thing, but blind cave fish do navigate through using their lateral line to detect changes in water pressure. In unfamiliar environments they swim faster in an effort to learn their surroundings. Total guess there on my part, but hoping I at least made it sound plausible.

I've always found blind cave tetras to be "nip happy" due to not being able to see. Since they are blind they rely on their other senses to explore their surroundings. I've found that one of the ways they do that is by nipping at their surroundings. Sometimes that can mean nipping at fish fins, sometimes that can be your arm or other unusual object in their tank.
