I've seen them at my lfs a few times, silver with black spots on the tails (not sure what species). I know they get big, but are they a hardy fish or no?
They are very hardy fish, but they are also schooling fish.Red bellies can grow up to a foot long,so if you have a small school of them,at least 6,you will need a big tank.
Dont do it Herky!.............IMO, a very boring fish that needs alot of room and tankmates of his own kind..............If your looking for a predator fish, go with some other type of American cichlid........More personality and alot more active than pirahnas
And they just hover in position...pretty boring fish, IMHO. I was just at SeaWorld and they had a HUGE tank of these fish and they barely moved.
