What type of cory is this?

Hello all!

Due to a recent accident in my tank, I lost my school of corys with the exception of one. Ever since then this one seems very inactive, because as I read they like to school with others of their kind. I want to get him/her some buddies. However, I've also heard that if I get a different type, they may still not school together.

Therefore, I was hoping for some help from you. Can you ID this guy/gal for me?
I looked at all the catfish profiles on this forum. Sterbai cory and leopard cory looked somewhat similar, but there is always something off. It doesn't have the black spot on the dorsal fin like the leopard cories do and the sterbai cory looks overall too dark.
The False Network Catfish looks a lot like what I have. This fish has a faint greenish tint/shimmer to it.

I apologize for the poor picture quality, like already mentioned, this guy is hiding all too well.

Yes, I looked at every single cory fish profile on this forum. The reticulated cory has this black spot on the dorsal fin, which my cory doesn't have. So I dismissed that one.

Do you think it could be the false network catfish?

oh yeah! looks a lot like your little guy. could very well be that. I'm hoping someone with more cory experience stops by your thread to tell you for sure.

Not 100% sure what it is...just throwing another log on the fire. I would agree that it does look like the false network Cory, C. sodalis. It is known to have many variations in patterns and to have a tint to it. I have never kept them but have seen them around.

Look up Corydoras noelkempffi... could be a possibility. I wish my Cory book had an ID key instead of just pictures of the ~150 species. Just for giggles... look up Corydoras sp C120 and Corydoras sp 65, they are similar but clearly not correct.

It can be difficult to ID some species because of the variation. I am not an expert, just an amateur Cory breeder. Planetcatfish.com's forum is a good place to go for cory id.

I would agree that it may likely be Corydoras sodalis, or one of the newer very similar species. I had a group of C. sodalis back in the late 1990's.

There are so many "new' species being discovered as collectors expand into previously-un fished streams in Amazonia. And the co-incidence of sympatric species in adjoining creeks is truly staggering.
