We picked out a bushy nose or bristlenose pleco yesterday that had some interesting markings. He appeared black with wide, symmetrical grey stripes going around his body. About 4 stripes encircling his body. He does not have as many stripes as a candy striped pleco. He also has lighter circles around his eyes and a lighter patch on his head. I am having a lot of trouble getting a pic of him, but I am wondering if this pattern has a name? In our QT tank he looks more bronze, with lighter golden stripes and markings. Thanks!!
Could be a calico or piebald, never heard of bumble bee, though I'm sure someone will take creative license naming them given the chance. Wouldn't be the first species it's been done with, that's for sure!
Yes, he definitely looks likes a beautiful calico. I have heard the the calico BN was produced by breeding different species together, however most likely it is due to natural colouration.
I have some green spot algae growing on my glass and anubias and I don't know why my bn is not cleaning it off. Can I stop feeding him until he cleans the glass and plants?
The male bristle nose that I had used to alternate between the colour and pattern of yours, and the standard spotted appearance. I think it has to do with the colour of the substrate.
Interestingly enough, the Bristlenose I now have was spotted, but is usually now all black, without markings. I think it is pretty cool.
