Synodontis impossible to catch

I want to move my synodontis from one tank to another. She is 6" so a reasonably substantial fish. I tried netting her but it is difficult and she panics. She swam so fast that she ran right into the glass. I am afriad that if I try to net her again she will really hurt herself. She got stressed very easily when I tried to net her. I only spent 10-15 seconds maximum trying and she was flapping her gills franticly and seemed terrified! It wouldn't work to coax her into tub because she has no interest whatsoever in coming out from under the wood.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how I can move her?

Thanks.

i just caught my 3 pretty easy, i just removed half of the ornaments so that half the tank was empty thenput the net near them but i did it slowly, then they dont want anything to do with the net and move to the other side of the tank, which is empty (btw they wernt scared of the net and thats why they moved, they moved pretty slowly, lol) then when they were in the open area i just ran the net up beside them and they could just be scooped up...

Ok thanks. I had thought about removing the wood but then thoguht that this would stress her further as she would feel like she had nowhere to go (I know this is the idea but I didn't want her to feel like this).

I will give that a go now.

Thanks again.

ha ha i just read that as ice cream tub SHOE...... i didnt know what to think, lol

ive found a large clear jug is good too.... just make them swim into it and pick it up....i had to do that with my oscar once as my net wasnt big enough to catch him in.... he didt flop around like he would in a net but i bet he was wondering why he was facing down to the floor all of a sudden... lol (he barely fitted inbto the jug btw, his tail was out of the jug...)

Thanks for all the hlp, but I have tried everything - nothing worked. She wins!

Fish 1 - Julie 0

She stays in the same tank and I moved all 11 other occupants instead. Both tanks are near enoguh the same size so it doesn't matter. I just wanted to move her rather than everybody else.

Alas...it was not to eb the case.

You could get two nets. One in each hand, she's sure to surrender. Approach her with the net, causing her to evacuate to the other side where she will meet Net #2. She will be scared scaleless but it will be necessary, there is no easy way to go about catching a panicky fishy.

I tried the 2 net methods actually but she somehow managed to do a queer 90 degree movement and avoid them. I tried to do it slowly so as not to panic her as much. If I was quicker it might have worked but I really dind't want to stress her anymore than necessary.

In any case the moving has been done, althoguh as I said, it wasn't the said fish that got moved, but still. I have my tanks with the companions I intended, even if they're not in the tanks I intended.

the only problems with syno's and this method is that when they are in the net and panicking they will flop around alot and get thier barbs caught in the net. therfore stressing and hurting the fish even more. so if you were gunna use 2 nets make sure they are a specially designed et for fish with barbs OR just go with the ice cream tub method.. i do prefer this one for panicky fish but i would use a clear container like a jug
