Synodontis Fighting!

My two male Synodontis keep fighting. I have had them for 3 years. They are both about 6 inches long.

They do this weird front and back movement next to each other with all their fins out and mouths open wide. Then they bite each other. I have one huge female but she seems to stay out of it. Are they fighting for territory or over the female or what? What should I do? Thanks

I would say that they may be fighting over the female and/or the breeding cave. If they don't have a cave to call their own, it might be a good idea to get one for each of them including the female. This allows them to establish a "territory" and could eliminate some of the fighting.
