I wanted to set up a tank with only cories, how many are good for a plastic tank that is 24x18x12, can the water be 7 inches high i plan on using an internal filter[/list]

So a 22 gallon tank...but with the water less than half, that really leaves out teh number of cories you can add. Why would you only have 7" in a 18" tall tank? I would switch the filter out. That will not look very good.

If you raised the water level up to what it should be, then I would add 6-8 cories, or even 8-10 pygmy cories.

I would actually go with 8 even for just the 7g. Reason being that pygmies, more than the larger cories, tend to fade away when not in largeish groups. A group of 6 would be verging on too small for this species IMHO. They are not big waste producers and if water changes are done frequently and they are not overfed then water quality should not be an issue. Since it is height that is lost rather than floor space I don't feel that the numbers need be reduced quite so much as there is still space for them to move about which is why I am recommending 8.

I'm not sure what you mean by plastic tubes either. Could you explain/ Or maybe post a picture?

Here is the link of the picture of the tub:

this is the dimentions

24 inches long
18 inches wide
12 inches tall

it has a top so i was thinking of using an internal filter

and im sorry bu your calculations are all wrong if I was to fill it up only to the 7 inch march it would be about 13, i dont know how your getting about 7-9 gallons i used a formula online for sqaure inches to gallons

24" long x 7" tall x 12" deep = 8.72 US gallons. Take a look at this link: http://www.fishfriend.com/tank_volume_calculator.html . Plug in your numbers and switch it to inches and US gallons, and you get 8.72 gallons. You would have a bit more than 13 if you used 12" for the height.

I still don't get why you need to cut off 5" for an internal filter. Just cut off something in the back and put in a good HOB filter.

No offense, but I really dont like the decor in that tank. It looks like a little kid went through your kitchen and put stuff in the tank. :?

I guess it looks decently sturdy. Plastic, right?

The only thing I would be concerned abotu would be like little kids coming and touching it, messing with it, etc. And the clarity of the inside wouldn't be the best.

I would just handle it with extreme care to make sure it doesn't bend, or even snap.

i wouldnt recomend even what they say for cories in this tank. as the dimensions u gave werent of the space that would be under water.. I have this tank and not even half of it would lie under water... as the majority is resesed and designed for newts and frogs.... (small turtles when young)

But if Your patient and have friends who keep tanks then u might be able to get some free tanks of good size. Only tnkas (that keep fish) that i ever payed for were 10 gallons... i got 29, and 55 gallon tanks for free with complete setup (good sized chiclids in the 29 [over stocked and fish had out grown it..])... If You are patient then ull find something on craigslist and such. You can even try ebay... If ur in the right area's ebay has good deals.
