Save the Panda Corydoras...?

Just the other day, I was at my LFS - which is the best place in the area because they actually keep their fish healthy and know what they're talking about when you ask them questions- but I was really taken aback with them for making such a grave mistake.

I wanted to buy some panda corydoras (Corydoras Panda), but apparently they were put in with these green fish with reddish tails (their bodies were long, like danios) who would viciously harass and attack them! Their fins were all ripped up because of them and I felt so sorry for them that I had one of the workers tell the supervisor.

Although they promised that they would move the Corydoras, I'm still worried about them. Maybe I should have bought them and tried to save them anyway...? I've never really taken care of sick fish before, though, so maybe it's better than I didn't risk it...?

Well, I've been thinking about it all weekend and plan on heading back over there on Monday to at least see if something was done for them.

It's horrible when you go into a fish store and see something like that, but good for you for pointing it out to them. If they do indeed know what they're doing, I'm surprised they hadn't already noticed and moved the fish.

Please let us know the outcome :)

I've heard rumors that the shipment of Panda cory's is pretty rough to begin with. Then for something like that to happen....I have two little Panda's and love them to death. They're cool little dudes. You may not be able to buy all of them, but I'd say get a couple and see what you can do. Even if you can save one or two of them it's better than none ya know?

I'm very sorry for the late update, but I was busy and hadn't had the chance to go the LFS until today.

Nothing has changed. The panda corydoras were still in the same tank and still being harassed. I spoke to another worker (a man this time) but I don't think he's going to do anything about it. He actually seemed annoyed that I was "telling him how to do his job".

I don't know what to do for those poor fish, but I think I might take Qpc68's suggestion and try to save what I can.

(By the way, the fish that victimized the panda corydoras were the Green Fire Tetra, or Aphyocharax Rathbuni.)

I had a similar expierience at my favorite lfs, Upon entering one afternoon the old woman who owns the store said..."I got some german blue rams in they are over there in the corner tank." I walked over to the tank and then said.. You mean you used to have some rams. "no she said, Theyre probably hiding behind the driftwood." I said no, They are laying in front of the driftwood and appear to be dead. " Whaaaaa? she said before coming over and discovering that the rams were indeed dead and were being chewed up by a group of Black Phantom Tetras. Her teenage help had placed them in the tank with the rams not knowing any better. The rams were just babies and never stood a chance. :(

I would talk to the manager or owner, and tell them that they generally are your most respected and best LFS but ask them why they didn't move the fish when you pointed out the error and mentioned it to the employees. Odds are sadly very good that the employees were too lazy to move them and even lazier to let the manager know about it.

generally speaking, most pet places sell more than jsut fish and fish yeild the lowest profit margin because of difficulties in shipping and high death rate from ignorant customers, they're also much more numerous than other animals for sale. That's why most places to care for the fish as well as they should. I agree with flashygrrl, u should talk to the manager about the problem because the employees probably dont see the fish as anything of value and so they dont care enough.
