Pleco

Hello, I have a pleco, i thought he was a common but just saw a sail fin and cant tell the difference

here is a pic of him/her , and would you know its gender?

Well, I counted 13 dorsal rays on him, so that would lead me to believe he is indeed a sailfin pleco. (Common plecos have around 8 rays).

Don't males tend to be smaller? This probably doesn't help much hopefully someone will come on with more experience. As of now my sailfin pleco is a he/she so I will be watching this thread :)

Thanks, do you know if the lighter patch on his back is ok? he has always had it and never noticed anything wrong with him , some times it disapears sometimes its really strong, ( like the photo)

I have no idea. He's obviously healthy!!! I don't think I'd worry about it.
