Thanks for respones. I also think that Buddy is a S. nigrita, or some hybrid of a nigrita, after looking at pictures of catfish on another site (not PlanetCatfish). Thay had many pictures of catfish sorted by types.
Buddy's spots were more visible when he was young, especially on his fins. Now you can only see the spots in the right light. They are like a black leapord's spots that you don't see until sunlight strikes the leapord.
We also like the fact that he is a nigrita because they are supposed to live longer than the S. eupterus.
Now, they mention 17 years for a nigrita, but that is probably the average age. Since we know that he is getting on in age, we are a bit worried. We hope we can enjoy his antics for many more years to come.
