peppered cory disappeared in QT

I had 6 peppered cories and QTed them in 5 gal tub. After about 4-5 days one of them was missing. I thought may he was hiding somewhere. Today after about 2 wks in QT I put the 5 remaining in the main tank. I looked and looked all over the QT tank. No sign of the 6th guy!!! Not even bones??!! I have no clue! Any similar experience? Any thoughts? It really bothered me. This never happened to me before. Couple of times I had the fish die on me as they jumped out and died. But I have spotted the dead fish. This time it was bizare! :(
Thanks

I'm sorry to hear you are missing a fish. They really can disappear, decompose, disintegrate very quickly and a Cory is very small, it won't take long at all. It can be rather perplexing for sure.
Do you know your parameters? Did you cycle your tank before adding fish? There are many factors that could be involved here.

It was QT tank - 5 gal tote with lid. I put in a heater and a sponge filter that usually was in the main tank (in addition to my canister and HOB). Whenever I buy new fish and start a QT I use this sponge filter - instant cycle..... Plus, I change water every other day (at worst every 2 days) in the QT for 2 wks....

Still kind of puzzled, because after first 4 days or so I only saw 5 of them. I should have taken decorations and things out and inspected right away.... I just assumed he hiding.... Thanks for the replies....
