Peppered Catfish Died

Hi

I got a peppered catfish 3 days ago and when I came home from work tonight it was dead at the bottom of the tank. It was fine when I checked on it this morning. There appears to be an blood under the skin near its tail - otherwise he looks to be healthy. I've attached a picture but its not very clear. Has he broken his tail do you think?! The water in the tank is within safe parameters and the other fish (7 tetras and 1 dwarf catfish which I've had for 2 years) are fine.

The only thing I can think of is the other catfish could have attacked him or maybe or has got too close to the filter??

My 2 year old catfish had a friend - I bought them together - but I lost that one about a year ago. It lost one eye then a few weeks later it lost the other and was dead at the bottom of the tank! I wonder if my surviving catfish is a bully??

Thanks for your response, I had to Google the term and am really worried now about my other fish, what the hell do I do to stop them all going the same way?! I'm going to change the carbon in the filter and do a partial water change - is there anything else I can do?

Please help!

I see this quite often on imported fish that have ammonia poisoning. I generally do a 75% WC for the first 3 days and use a combination of Melafix and Pimafix which has actually proven quite successful.

This condition can spread rapidly. It's best to isolate the fish by degree of severity as you can expect to lose the most severely affected specimens, regardless of treatment.

Good luck in your efforts. - Frank

P.S. Any chance you can reduce the physical dimensions of your image???

Here's a link to info with photos that may help. I am not a disease person, so don't like to suggest this or that remedy (other than partial water changes which can't hurt providing parameters are similar).

Does the other fish have red spots or streaks on it body and fins? Treat it with Furan-2 or E.M. Erythromycin. follow the insturction on the bottle and remove the carbon filter during treatment.only used the carbon after the fish get well.

Thank you for your responses everybody All the pet shops will be closed now but I'll get those chemicals tomorrow morning and hope I can treat my fishes in time! I really wish I hadn't bought that catfish now

How do I alter the picture size?

Thank you again for your advice
