Oto Cats LOVE yams/sweet potato

I put well blanched sweet potato in my tank for my loaches, and just discovered the Otos are all over it, and really like it. If you want to try it for a treat for your Otos, I thought I'd share. Boil in hot water till a bit soft. Make sure you cool before putting in tank!

Who knew? I don't have Otos but did any other fish show interest in it? We always have sweet potatoes around.

Animal testing is a terrible idea; they get all nervous and give the wrong answers.

I started sweet potatoes, because the profile for Angelicus (Botia) loaches says they like it. The fish I have in the tank that like it also, are black/brown Kuhli loaches (don't know their "real" name), Angelicus and the Burmese loaches, and of course, Otos. At one time I had 2 of my Otos on the one piece, with other fish all pushing for time at the sweet potato. Would make a cute pic! The ghost shrimp too were found on it at one point. My piggy Dwarf Neon Rainbows had to see what all the fuss was about, because they love to eat, but they just nipped at it, because others were eating, but it wasn't something they wanted. If it's a veggie that is high in calcium, it would be a great thing for the ghost shrimp.

You don't really need to blanch vegetables before putting them in your tank. I sometimes soak vegetables like potatoes just to soften them a little, but blanching them actually removes a lot of the nutrition.
