They are my new favorite fish! They are so fun to watch, especially when they swim around with my danios. The danios seem puzzled but the Otos are just enjoying themselves.
Anyway, to my question: I've had them for three days and they've already put a serious dent in my algae. What happens when they eat it all? I have algae wafers, but they don't seem to have any interest at all in these. Is that something that will come with time? Thanks!
Some of these little fish adapt to algae wafers or spirulina pellet's,and other's are tempted by vegetable matter such as Zuchinni, cucumber,Romain lettuce, and or product such as.. "Sally's Seaweed" which is dried Marine algae you can buy in sheets from fish store,or Sushi-Nori found in grocery store in cultural food isle.
I they prove not to accept any of these, (some may)try placing a bowl of water in window sill that receives a good deal of sun along with some smooth stones.
Over time ,,algae will develop on the stones and you can then place one or two of these algae covered stones in the aquarium and swap em out on occasion.
