New Whiptail broken tail-whip

G'day guys...!

We bought a new whiptail for our tank, but as we were transitioning him from the aquarium bag to our tank, one of his barbs broke off...I was devastated. He seems ok, not really moving around much, but is eating.

What i wanted to ask was
1.) Will this barb grow back ?

2.) Will the loss of the barb affect his behaviour and ability swim around ?

Assuming you mean one of the caudal (tail) fin filament extensions, that will not affect the fish in any way. It may grow back, perhaps not as extensive.

It sometimes takes this fish a while to become settled. Leave it be; if it is eating, that is a good sign.

Something we all need to remember: The fish you've acquired was quite happy not being owned by you, minding its own business. If you’re going to take it under your wing then you’re responsible for it. Every aspect of its life is under your control, from water quality and temperature to swimming space. [Nathan Hill in PFK]
