It looks to be a common to me but I am not good with plecos. Either species needs a much larger tank as they both get huge, (can reach 2 ft in a proper tank for both species). I have a small sailfin pleco that my mom brought home for my 75. Thing makes a mess (with how much waste it has) of the tank and it is only 3-4 inches long. I will eventually rehome it as it gets to big for my tank. The eat algae and basically anything else it can scrounge from to bottom. Things like blanched zuchini and cucumber are appreciated as well. They tend to enjoy sinking algae/bottom feeder wafers.

I would suggest rehoming it ASAP. at 7 inches it is much to large for your 20 gallon to handle it's waste alone. The take up more bioload then many fish twice their size.

I would suggest at least a 75g, a 90g would be ideal.

large plecos can be pretty aggressive, on top of that he has been living in a dark pond for a while an now he is in a very bright tank. My guess is he thrashes at them when they get close
3.) is there any hiding places it will need
Hiding places will help him feel more comfortable. You can use rocks or wood to create areas he can hide out in.
4.) should i feed it any thing extra
he will need his own food, if thats what you need. veggie wafers are a good staple but you may want to supplement with fresh veggies.

thank you in advance for your help

Oh, and the pleco you have is a Pterygoplichthys gibbiceps

Unfortunately rehoming a large pleco is not easy. I would suggest putting up a craigslist ad looking for someone in your area, or sometimes independent local fish store may take him as long as you are not looking to get anything for him.

I don't trust Craigslist I have had him along time and I just want him happy..I know the only way to get fish is from a pet store but I have seen horrors of pet stores because of puppy mills etc..and omg no I want no money at all,,,but honest why are they so hard to rehome..TY so much..
