Question mystery of the missing peppered cory!

i've got two new peppered corydora's last week. such cute lil babies. my tubby older ones looked sad so i got them some buddies. 4 days after one i found dead so i took it back and got a new one. the new one was a bit smaller then the dead one. it seemed calm an didn't really eat much when the light was on. so this morning when i got home from work at 8 am i fed everybody an turned the lights out. all the corys were accounted for and feeding. when i got up tonight at 7 pm i noticed there was only one new baby catty! so i looked everywhere. even under my driftwood. it vanished! no sign of a body or anything. could it have died and the other corys and my black kuhli's disposed of the body? my angelfish are rather large but i dont think they could eat it they pretty much dont mess with anyone besides they fight amongst themselves. im puzzled what all went down lol all i know is im out 6 dollars and a cute lil cat fish. thought id share my mystery story haha.

honestly, i almost NEVER count all 8 of my cories at once, so your new little guy could very well be hiding.
Test your water. If his little body is somewhere in the tank still, it'll...well, start rotting, and you'll probably get an ammonia spike.
Other than that I feel like he could just be getting use to his new home!

I have had this happen to me before too! A couple of times actually. Once, the lil sucker disappeared for several days before magically reappearing like nothing had happened. I too, had looked under the decorations and through the plants, to no avail. Yet there he showed up!
The other one unfortunately was not as lucky. This was a couple of years after the first one. I finally found his picked clean bones the next day.

When I have fish missing, I tend to look outside the tank even with a top on. I lost a beautiful violet goby once because I did not know at the time they were jumpers and I had a small area in the lid that was open. He found it! I found him lying an inch away from the dog's water bowl. I had another incident with a rather large mystery snail. It got out and my dog decided it was a threat and took it out to the cold yard. I found it several hours later, plopped it back in some warm water and was surprised when it came back about 4 hours later. I now make sure there are no obvious openings to the lids...lol

I hope your lil guy magically shows up like my first one did!

A couple of large sails can dispose of a body pretty quickly. I have had the same thing happen and it seems to only take a couple days.

Is your tank covered? On a mad dash to the surface for a gulp of air it could have jumped out. And if you have pets.....welll...

Fish can get out of the smallest of openings. I have had an 8" long Synodontis Cat jump out of my tank recently. He jumped through the small crack where the over the back filter and the lip of the hood meet (only opening). My cat and dog heard it flopping around on the hardwoods and woke me up. Fish survived .
