I just noticed one of my ottos having a bloated stomach, like it ate too much. It is barely swimming and mostly lying on its side, almost turning onto its back. Could i still save it, or it's going to die?
We would need more info before we could help. What size tank, how long has it been set up, size of tank, current occupants, water parameters, tank maintenance schedule, etc. How long have you had these otos? The more info the better.
so, my tank is 40 gallons, and it is running for almost 2 months now. i have 9 tiger barbs, 2 dwarf gouramis, 2 angelfish, 5 ottos, 5 corys, 5 cherry barbs, 2 big snails. ammonia is 0, nitrites and nitrates are 0. pH is 7.5.
I siphon the tank 1-2 times a week, and i got these ottos less than a week ago. BTW, my otto, the one with the bloated belly and red spots died an hour ago.:-----cry:
Is your tank planted?? I ask as you have a zero nitrAte reading. Normally a cycled tank will test for nitrAtes. In the case of an established well planted tank it's common for there not to be a reading for nitrAte. Otos are very delicate fish and require an established tank with stellar water parameters. Since you only added these to the tank a week ago it's very possible they weren't healthy to begin with.
I'm sorry you lost your oto. How are the others looking?
I see some problems with your stock, as far as keeping tigers with angels. Not sure on the size of your fish but you are also pushing the stocking limits on your tank. JMHO
My tank is planted, and my nitrate level was always 0. That's good, right?
And my tiger barbs are still babies and my angelfish are adults and they get along with eachother pretty well. Ocassionally, a tiger barbs will start to chase an angelfish, but not nip on its fins, and then return to the rest of the tiger barbs.
Also, can the disease be dropsy?!
Thanks for helping out!
