My catfish have mysteriously disappeared?!?

i have 3 blue l-f danios, 4 zebra danios, 4 white cloud mountain minnows, 4 neon tetras, and i thought i had 2 suckermouth catfish. They did a good job of keeping my aquarium clean, and about 2 weeks after i recieveed them, one disappeared. I have a 20 gal tank, high not long, and they weren't in the filter, they were too big to be eaten, and they didn't seem to starve. I have only one structure in the tank, a pyramid type, medium size thing that I got so the fish could hide inside if they felt the need to. The catfish were in there, under a few pieces of slate that i put in, and under plants by day, and all over the algae by night. the tank was about half clean with some algae still inside, and a few days later the other fish disappeared. Now, about 2 weeks later, the algae has grown back worse than before. I have cleaned my tank looking for bodies and to get the algae off, but i found niether of them. Should i get more or let my snails get at it?

I would look till I found them or their remains.

The most important medication in your fish medicine cabinet is.. Clean water.

the problem is that, i really do want to search the whole tank till i find them, but my other fish would have no place to go, and i dont have another tank big enough for them all, or lots of separate ones to put them in. If i could, i would try completely draining the tank and look, and if i didnt find remains, at least i could clean the sand in the tank. ugh i dont know...

Are your snails in the tank? Depending on the type of snail, they could have eaten the carcasses of the dead fishies.

and give the tank a good spring clean.that way you get two
birds with one stone.clean tank and the end to a mistery.

What do you mean by "suckermouth catfish"? If you mean chinese algae eaters or a similar fish, they might have jumped out. Did you check the floor all around the tank for dried-up fish?

oh sorry, i meant dwarf suckermouth catfish. And no, my top is secure except in the back. I'll check the back still, though, and i only have 2 or 3 snails that did not eat the unfound, unknown bodies, they (the snails) are a common type, i am unsure what they are, but they hid in one of my plants that i bought and i havent checked their species yet, ill do that now. ill google it. yeah, they seem like really small, brownish gray apple snails. ill take a picture later and post it.

sorry people, when i tried to get the snail to get the pic, it fell, and i couldnt find it among the pebbles. he is brownish-gray, like sand, and has white spots on it, about 30 all on the beginning of the shell, and it has a white tail (well, the tip of it's end). has anyone heard of this?

it also looks slightly similiar to Physa acuta (family Physidae), which i googled but it's different. it is longer then the actual snail, and the eyes are smaller in length. look at the second image if you google it, and type Physa acuta (family Physidae), that snnail looks the most similiar.
