Well, I'm still on a quest to get an interesting bottom feeder for my 29g community tank. I've got sand as my substrate. I've ruled out cories (cute though they may be) because I've already got some in another tank and I want something different. I need something not too big but that won't get eaten by golden wonder killies. Originally I was thinking kuhli loaches, but have been somewhat talked out of it.
So how about Microglanis iheringi, the South American Bumblebee Catfish? I saw some of these at a LFS a few days ago and sort of wrote them off because I assumed they'd get too big for my tank. Apparently they max out at about two and a half inches. Perfect!
I did some research on them, but none of the sources I found could tell me how well they get along together. Anyone know if these are social critters, or should I only get one? I've got plenty of caves to hide in.
