hi i just got back from my lfs adding a pleco to my 40 gallon aquarium cause i have a a little algae just wondering if anyone with plecos has any guiding words to a first time owner
You couldn't get an easier fish to take care of. They will eat flakes so no need to buy special algae wafers or other foods, even though they are a tasty treat. Mine also loves shrimp pellets. They do poop alot, and grow very rapidly.
Uh oh...common plecos get BIG. Like two feet long big. Plus, they stop eating your algae when they get older. I'd recommend exchanging him for a bristle nose pleco, unless you plan on a major tank upgrade soon
hi
mine will often go for whatever is on the bottom of the tank at feeding time, from, catfish pellets, shrimp pellets, algae waffers, and the thing
mine love the most is cucumber slices.
My theory was seeing as they can eat wood, they can probably chew through some broccoli, and I've proven myself correct. It's more nutritious that way and it doesn't get slimy as fast. I just wrap a plant weight around the stem to make it sink.
cool thanks.
i use a stone with a hole in it and secure with sandwitch bag tie.
i shall give it a try tomorrow,i just took a pic of my plec
with his face in the cumber munching away.
i like to vary their diet.
I love feeding my fish fresh veggies, it just seems so much tastier than algae wafers! But then my bunny gets jealous and she wants some too and then I don't have enough for my dinner
aww i love bunnies, soooooooooo cute,id give up my veg any day.
