How long does it take for bn to grow bristles

Hi I have had bn for about 6 months but it doesn't have any bristles. It kinda looks like they are staring to grow. the lenght of the pleco is is aroun2 1/2 inches

Your pleco may not be a male if its bristles are not as pronounced as they should be for males.

Yah lol... I was obseerving the tank and was checking to see if it had bristles and he puffed up his cheeks or something and spikes shot out. It looked so amazing but I haven't seen him do that again but I'm also at school 8 hours and home work occupies me
