how big of a piece of wood does a clown pleco need?

could it be smaller than a pinky? i was thinking of just breaking a piece of one of my current pieces till i get some more.

I would give it something substantial so the pleco can sit on it and graze along it. And add a couple more in time. These fish come from waters thick with chunks of wood.
