Holy snot! Baby Sterbais!!!!

So I have three 20 gallon Amazon tanks - tetras & corys and plecos. The one by my bed is kind of a throwaway. It has the least light, and most of the substrate is marble sized pebbles. In it are a Clown Pleco (my first non-guppy tropical fish, Mr. Pleakly), 6 Black neons, 6 Glowlights, 1 Three Line and 4 Sterba's Corys.

Well, there are at least 6 Sterbas in there now. I saw two little guys tonight - the size of an oat and cute as a bug's ear. I guess that the substrate is big enough that they got down in there as mini fry and found enough by way of infusoria to keep them alive.

Good timing too. I'm going to be combining the 20s into a 55 around the end of June.

Too firkin cool.

How exciting! Congratulations!

Could you post a pic? Although they are too small.

Awwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww baby sterbas...

The smallest I've seen were about 3/4". I bought them for my 20 gal immediately. Most adorable fishies ever.

They're growing up fast though, let me tell ya. I have two others in my 20 gal, and they're about half their size now. Used to be much smaller.

Tanks: 40 gal FW setup, 10 gal Reef tank.

Did water change, plant maintenance and gravel cleaning today. Then I went in with a net and got the fry out to a tank of their own. Turned out to be 5 of them that I could find.

Here's the best picture I could get:

They're gorgeous tophat!

Do you know how old they are? Or have had baby cories before? If not I would say they're probably about 2-3 weeks old if mine are anything to compare to. Looks like they've done a good job hiding for that amount of time. I've had a couple survive in my main tank as well, and these grew much more quickly (unsurprisingly) than the ones hatched in the breeder unit.

These are my first egg hatched fry of any kind ever. I've done guppies and swordtails, but never any egg layers. Based only on some University of Hawaii study of tiger barb commercial culture, I have to agree with the 2 or 3 week assessment.

I've got them in their own tank now, and I am keeping an eye on the old tank to see if there are any more. (Going to add some Lemon Tetras in there too.)

Thanks all. Two months later, taking down that tank, I ended up finding a total of 11 fry. One of them has since kicked the bucket for no reason I can tell, but the rest are all in a 55 now.
